What is a flat wash?

This is one of the most difficult techniques to master.

How to master the flat wash:

Keep your board tilted a little and follow the "bead" of paint as it moves down the paper with each stroke.

Consistency is key! It helps to premix the pigment wash and make sure there is enough to complete the area requiring the flat wash. Do not vary the intensity of the paint.
